The Manager of the Microscopy and Imaging Shared Resource (MISR) has day-to-day responsibility for the management of the MISR which exists to provide state of the art microscopy and imaging platforms and analysis software for faculty and their lab members at GUMC and across the University. The MISR is supported by funding from the National Cancer Institute, University funds, and charges for the use of the equipment. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that the imaging platforms and other equipment in the MISR are in good working order, providing preventive maintenance and arranging service calls as needed. To fulfill these roles the MISR Manager needs to be an expert in a wide variety of light microscopy-based imaging modalities and the use of modern image analysis platforms. Reporting directly to the Director of the MISR, additional duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct initial training of all users on the various instruments that they will use, developing and assisting with imaging and image analysis workshops for MISR users.
- Provide day-to-day advice to users as they conduct their imaging and analysis work.
- Meet with faculty and their staff to discuss imaging projects and approaches, advising on the choice of instruments and reagents for imaging studies.
- Help investigators develop appropriate imaging and analysis workflows for their projects.
- Oversee the day to day cleaning and maintenance of all imaging platforms within the MISR, arranging service calls for preventive maintenance and repairs to the various systems.
- Manage the computers attached to the imaging platforms and stand-alone imaging computers, maintaining the booking system in Idea Elan through which users book time on instruments.
- Conduct monthly billing activities to charge for user time, training, and supplies provided.
- Work with the Shared Resources Administration to ensure that the required work tags are in the system, and with the MISR Director to plan instrument upgrades, repairs, and system enhancements.
- Generate usage data and other information for grant writing activities and CCSG updates, keeping track of instrument leases and service contracts.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree; Master's strongly preferred
- 3-5 years of related experience involving a wide variety of microscopy techniques and a range of imaging and analysis platforms
- Ability to work under moderate supervision
- A good working knowledge of a range of image analysis software packages and general strategies is important
- Significant experience with LSM and Spinning Disk confocal microscopy, FRET, FLIM, FRAP, and similar fluorescence-based methods strongly desired
Work Mode Designation
This position has been designated as On-Campus. The MISR Manager needs to directly interact with MISR users and the instruments that are all located on campus.

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$44,022.00 - $73,406.80
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
